Medical Staff President
|
troi.ka — 1: a Russian vehicle drawn by three horses abreast 2: a group of three; especially an administrative or ruling body of three
Using the term, Troika, as a reference to the Medical Staff Leadership was an idea created by the fifth President of the Medical Staff, Walter J. Okunski, MD, plastic surgeon. As the job of the President of the Medical Staff grew since the opening of the hospital in 1974, Dr. Okunski had the idea of sharing the duties of the office of the President by three individuals — the President, Past President, and President-elect of the Medical Staff. In this manner, the experience and expertise of the Past President could continue to be utilized while the President-elect would have a two-year period in which to garner experience before sitting as the President of the Medical Staff. All three individuals are full voting members of both the Network and Hospital Boards of Trustees.
